IRL - "in real life", which again is vague because all of this is real. like i'm really at my computer, and if i really type *smiles* and you really experience the social reality of me smiling in the context of what is happening, then that's all real

but at the same time, like

it's good to have a term for like, physical proximity, being literally within the same physical area, able to, idk, bounce paper cups off of my head etc

these are two terms that i only really use because they're understood so widely.

RP - role-play, which is a very vague name considering we are always inhabiting a role. it means the online (usually text-based) social environment where

*pauses to think* where actions are denoted with special characters like asterisks,

and *gestures at the clearing's edge* a scene is sometimes set,

so that participants are collectively modelling a virtual space (i call that a "joinspace")
